NEWS: Discipline decision re ineligible player
September 30. 2022
Streatham IHC forward Ivan Antonov received a four-game suspension at the end of the 21/22 season, and served one game in the NIHL South 1 playoff final and a second game in the NIHL1 National Championship game in Coventry.
Antonov missed two pre-season games this season, then proceeded to play for Streatham in three games from September 18 onwards.
However under the Disciplinary Rules of the Association,
7. During the identified League Season only League Games will count towards a suspension. The following types of games will not count towards a suspension and do not qualify as games played:
6.1 Challenge/charity games whatever the circumstances of authorization (sic)
challenge games do not count towards games served under suspension therefore Antonov has only served two games of his four-game suspension.
Following investigation by Discipline and a meeting with a representative of Streatham IHC, the following decision has been reached:
– Ivan Antonov to serve a two game suspension to complete his outstanding ban. This is to
be served with immediate effect and is in relation to the suspension for kicking in the
2021/22 season.
– The three games Antonov has played should be overturned to 5-0 as per the EIHA Rules
of Competition. This is a rule which has been in place for a number of seasons, which
states:
8.6.Penalties
8.6.1. A team that lists an ineligible player on the Official EIHA Team List shall
result in that game being awarded as 5-0 to the non-offending side.
– 10 penalty points to be added to the Streatham team total for the breach.
Streatham were advised of this decision earlier today.
