NIHL round-up | 25-26 November
MK Lightning climbed to the top of the Planet Ice NIHL National Division after an emphatic four-point weekend.
A 5-4 victory over Raiders IHC on Saturday saw them keep pace with Leeds Knights, who triumphed 5-3 at home to Bees IHC on the same night. However, Lightning make their extra game count over the weekend by putting Raiders to the sword in the reverse fixture in Romford, running out 12-3 winners on Sunday.
Lightning lead the way on 30 points, with the Knights two points further back having played three games fewer.
Peterborough Phantoms missed out on the chance to enjoy another perfect weekend, but they remain in a good position in the table. Having suffered a 4-3 overtime loss to Solway Sharks, the Phantoms responded on Sunday with a 6-3 victory on the road at Hull Seahawks, who lost ground on the top three.
Telford Tigers also slipped up on a home soil, falling to a 4-1 defeat to Swindon Wildcats.
It was a difficult weekend for Bees IHC, who followed up Saturday’s defeat at Planet Ice Leeds with a surprise 6-0 defeat to Bristol Pitbulls on home soil.
The Pitbulls started the weekend with a 6-2 victory over Sheffield Steeldogs, but despite winning 2/2, they remain a point adrift at the bottom of the NIHL standings.
The Steeldogs did manage to bounce back from Saturday’s loss, however, as they toppled Solway Sharks 3-2 the next day.
