NEWS: Roll out of athletic and therapy support in S&C and Medical & Therapy teams

January 26, 2022

As the EIHA members and their teams come to the half-way point of the 2021/22 season, the Technical Director for the Athletic & Therapy team Alex Green is putting a call out to raise awareness of the great support that is currently available to all members.

We know in our sport that injuries can unfortunately occur across all of the age groups and therefore as part of the EIHA’s ongoing support to members we believe it is important to raise the awareness and understanding around how to manage injuries within a sensible time scale and where expert support can be found by players and coaches alike.

It is also important for members to understand the extent of the on-going work from the Strength and Conditioning (S&C) team which can help athletes to recover from injury, or reduce the risk of sustaining an injury through effective and regular exercising and mobility by adopting the correct range of movement.

Talking about the current workload, Alex Green said: “Having recently taken on role for leading the great team of therapists for the EIHA and having carefully monitored the work the therapists have been doing within the sport, I felt it was really important that we as a collective remain agile to support and meet the demands and needs of the EIHA clubs and their players as well as trying to meet the various clubs’ expectations.

“In addition to providing and maintaining the delivery of Athletics & Therapy services we are beginning to turn our attention to the development of athletes and the education of coaches so that together the participants of the sport will be able to perform at their optimum level both on and off the ice.

“We have already provided some significant new services in the first half of the current season and we have received some positive and supporting feedback which has been really useful as we look to push forward with the new ways of working being introduced by the EIHA’s Coach & Education sections.

“Members can look forward to news of some major new initiatives coming soon from the Athletic & Therapy section and I hope that we can expand on the current level of support which has been provided to the Elite Programmes which will hopefully become available to club teams across all of the Association’s regions and sections.”

For anyone interested in gaining access to the new service provisions the below email addresses have been set up to be a first point of contact to a team of experts who can remotely support athlete development, injury management and recovery.
