ENTP: Daintith delighted with response to England relaunch
August 23, 2022
The England National Team Programme (ENTP) took its first major step back this past fortnight, with camp in Hull and Sheffield for well over 220 athletes across six age groups.
Part of the elite pathway, the England programme has been one of the last sections to return to full action following the COVID pause, but the last two weeks have given everyone a huge boost with fantastic support from parents, players and clubs.
Technical director Andy Daintith spoke with EIHAtv at the end of the camps, and couldn’t hide his delight at the relaunch of the programme. (Click to watch the full video below)
“It’s fantastic to be back,” he said. “For some it’s been nearly three years so we weren’t sure if the buy-in would be there but the response has been amazing from players and parents as well as the coaches, managers and staff.
“We’ve had over 220 athletes taking part with others unable to make it in the summer, plus new coaches and managers with the Athlete Development Team supporting with S&C and therapists at all of our camps.
“The Board have backed the programme which has been brilliant, and it is hopefully the first step in getting the ENTP back to where it was nearly three years ago.”
Daintith said getting the girls’ teams back on the ice was particularly important as they had been off for the longest time, and the women’s and girls’ game is on such a high at the moment.
“Women’s hockey is in a great place at the moment and I’ve spoken with people from the GB programme to better understand what we can do and help prepare the girls for the top levels. We have Reg Wilcox overseeing the girls programmes, and we have coaches like Josie Lamey and Natalie Aldridge who have immense GB experience on and off the ice.”
The ENTP has secured ice for the remainder of this season for its’ programmes and details will be published very soon, with information from those in the programme about the next steps in the 22/23 cycle. It is hoped that all teams will travel to a tournament at the end of this season.
Below is the list of those invited to the initial trials, follow online and our social media for details of the next camps for our England teams.
