After wrapping up their eighth straight league title in April, Bracknell Queen Bees completed their regular season last weekend with a tough double header against Kingston and Guildford.

With 17 wins and a tie from their 18 games to date, the Queen Bees were keen to complete a remarkable second straight unbeaten season.

Saturday’s trip to Kingston saw the QBs with only nine skaters but they returned with a 1-1 tie thanks to Ellie Wakeling’s goal.

Twenty four hours later, Queen Bees returned to home ice for their last game of the regular season.  After a tight 1-0 first period, Bracknell added three in the middle frame to take control and ran out 7-3 winners to complete the season undefeated – 18 wins and two ties from their 20 games, with a goal differential of over 100.

Goalie Sam Bonathan confirmed that this will be her last season after a stellar career between the pipes with countless league and playoff honours while also backstopping the QueenBees in the European Champions Cup too.

‘Bons’ and the Queen Bees will have one last dance next weekend, June 1-2, at Women’s Trophy Weekend where Bracknell will look to add the Bill Britton Trophy for a second successive year.

Women’s section chair Paul Hayes said: “Congratulations to the Queen Bees on not only their league win, but an eighth in a row and a second straight season unbeaten.  The players and coaches have shown great determination to come back again and again to defend their crown, doing so undefeated for two seasons is a phenomenal achievement.”

There will be a full preview of the 2019 Women’s Trophy Weekend on the EIHA website early next week.  The Trophy Weekend is at Planet Ice, Widnes and admission for spectators is free of charge.
