TROPHY: ‘Tale of the Tape’ for Women’s Trophy Weekend

The EIHA women’s hockey season comes to a close this weekend with the traditional end-of-season playoff weekend, officially Women’s Trophy Weekend.  Four titles are up for grabs with the top four sides from Elite, Premier and Division 1 and the best two U16 clubs doing battle for one last time.

All games are at Bauer Arena Ice Sheffield with FREE admission for spectators.  For those unable to make it to Sheffield, 247.tv are streaming all ten games from the weekend online at this link.

On the eve of the tournament we take a look at all competing teams and compare their league records, top scorers and best goalies giving you some players to watch and teams to be wary of.  Let’s start with the top division, the Women’s Elite League.

The semi finals on Saturday are Bracknell v Kingston and Guildford v Solihull.

BRACKNELL QUEEN BEES (1st)

League record (W-D-L) 19-1-0.  Goals 119-26.  Top scorer Christine Newman 29+13=42.  Goalie Sam Bonathan 0.923 save percentage.

KINGSTON DIAMONDS (4th)

League record 5-6-9.  Goals 37-53.  Top scorer Shannon Jones 5+8=13.  Goalie Holly Steeples 0.932

GUILDFORD LIGHTNING (2nd)

League record 12-3-5.  Goals 73-46.  Top scorer Louise Adams 22+11=33.  Goalie Alexandra Barrow 0.922

SOLIHULL VIXENS (3rd)

League record 12-1-7.  Goals 78-60.  Top scorer Katie Henry 32+9=41.  Goalie Michelle Franklin 0.915


Into the Women’s Premier League, where the top four will line up Swindon v Kingston and Chelmsford v Milton Keynes.

SWINDON TOPCATS (1st)

League record 11-1-0.  Goals 85-7.  Top scorer Rebecca Da Cova 19+17=36.  Goalie Rachel Moore 0.992

KINGSTON DIAMONDS (4th)

League record 5-1-6.  Goals 36-47.  Top scorer Reagan Downing 9+6=15.  Goalie Charlotte Cook 0.890

CHELMSFORD COBRAS (2nd)

League record 8-1-3.  Goals 62-37.  Top scorer Tereza Plankova 20+8=28.  Goalie Cherry Hambleton 0.863

MILTON KEYNES FALCONS (3rd)

The third tier, Division 1, is split into North and South leagues.  The top two from each play crossover semi finals, so it’s Whitley Bay v Streatham and Basingstoke v Blackburn.

STREATHAM STORM (2nd in South)

BASINGSTOKE BISON LADIES (1st in South)

BLACKBURN THUNDER (2nd in North)

Finally the U16 Girls competition again features a North and South division, with the two league winners going head to head in Sunday’s U16 Trophy Final.  It’s Bracknell v Kingston once again this year.
