Solway Sharks, proud members of the National Ice Hockey League (NIHL), are celebrating their 20th anniversary next month with a gala dinner at the town’s Cairndale Hotel.
The Dumfries-based club have announced that their special guest speaker at the event will be the ‘Keeper of the Cup’ Phil Pritchard.
Pritchard last visited Dumfries in December 2013 when the Stanley Cup made its way to the UK for the 100 year anniversary of ice hockey in the UK, and the iconic trophy was on display during the U20 World Championship tournament hosted at the Dumfries Ice Bowl.
Now the man with what is surely one of the best jobs in hockey will entertain guests with tales of his 30+year association with Hockey Hall of Fame and travelling around the World with Lord Stanley.
Sharks chairman Ian Bryden said: “Solway Sharks are honoured and privileged that Phil Pritchard the “Keeper of the Cup” and vice president of the Hockey Hall of Fame has accepted an invitation to speak at the club’s 20th anniversary dinner.
“In addition to quality speakers, guests at the dinner will also be treated to a variety of superb entertainment and will have the chance to win amazing raffle prizes and participate in an auction for a number of fabulous lots with an ice hockey theme.
“These include breaks to the NHL Winter Classic in Dallas and to Belfast including flights and accommodation. In addition there are signed NHL ice hockey shirts and other memorabilia up for grabs.
“It is shaping up to be a very special event and a fitting way to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Solway Sharks Ice Hockey Club.”
The Sharks’ gala dinner is on April 27 at Cairndale Hotel, Dumfries, and limited tickets are still available from Dumfries Ice Bowl 01387 251 300.
