Peterborough Islanders completed the NIHL2 South treble courtesy of a 13-6 aggregate victory over Chelmsford Warriors in the final of the play-offs.

The Islanders had defeated Bristol Pitbulls to reach the final, while the Warriors progressed after defeating Cardiff Fire.

Clint Herring (2) and Nathan Pollard (2) topped the scoring in the first leg of the final as Peterborough romped to a 9-1 road success.

Brandon Ayliffe’s hat-trick helped Chelmsford restore some pride in the return game with a 5-4 win, but the Islanders end the campaign with the regular season regional title, the D2S Cup and play-off crown to their name.

At the presentation at Bretton, Islanders original founder Grant Budd made man of the match presentations before the trophy was awarded.

Peterborough added the playoffs to the NIHL S2 East league and S2 Cup trophies they claimed earlier the season.

The action this weekend draws a veil over the 2016/17 NIHL season and eyes turn towards the respective NIHL North and South league meetings in the coming weeks as we prepare for the new campaign.
