Chelmsford Chieftains and Invicta Dynamos will go head to head for the third piece of silverware in NIHL South Division 1 after they came through their respective semi finals.
The Chieftains are league and Cup winners already this year, having pipped Invicta to both titles. Now the two sides will play home and home this coming weekend to decide the NIHL S1 playoff championship.
Chelmsford defeated London Raiders 5-1 and 11-3 for a 16-4 aggregate scoreline. Juraj Huska bagged a treble on Saturday while Grant Bartlett lead the scoring in Sunday’s home leg, picking up 4+2 on the night.
Invicta came to Gillingham for the second leg of their tie with Streatham tied at 3-3 – Daniel Rose levelling the tie for the RedHawks at 57.34 of the first leg.
Sunday’s second leg, however, was a different story as, after a scoreless first session, the Dynamos powered in six second period goals to take control of the tie. Adam Rehak and Callum Fowler both recorded hat-tricks, as Invicta rattled in three goals in the final 82 seconds to seal a 10-1 second leg win.
The NIHL S1 playoff final is over two legs – Invicta are at home on Saturday April 8 (5.15pm) with the second leg at Chelmsford on Sunday April 9 (6.30pm).
