NIHL: Final Four ‘Tale of the Tape’ as Coventry weekend comes into view

The first NIHL Final Four weekend is nearly upon us – Telford, Peterborough, Basingstoke and Sheffield taking to the ice to decide the 2018 National Championship.

Here as we prepare for the weekend, we present a Tale of the Tape on the four runners and riders – looking at their league form, top scorer, goalies and post-season play.

We start with the top seed in the first semi final on Saturday.


TELFORD TIGERS

League record (W-L-OL): 27-6-2 = 56pts.  Third in NIHL North 1 (Moralee)

Top scorer: Jason Silverthorn 43+48 = 91pts

Top goalie: Denis Bell 0.929 save percentage

Playoffs: beat Whitley Warriors 5-2 (5-2, 0-0).  beat Hull Pirates 9-8 OT (5-5, 4-3 OT).  beat Sheffield Steeldogs 8-3 (6-0, 2-3)


PETERBOROUGH PHANTOMS

League record: 27-3-2 = 56pts.  Second in NIHL South 1 (Britton)

Top scorer: Nathan Salem 21+31 = 52pts

Top goalie: Euan King 0.918

Playoffs: beat MK Thunder 11-3 (4-1, 7-2).  beat Swindon Wildcats 8-6 (5-0, 3-6).  lost to Basingstoke Bison 2-3 (1-1, 1-2)


BASINGSTOKE BISON

League record: 28-4-0 = 56pts.  First in NIHL South 1 (Britton)

Top scorer: Tomas Karpov 29+38 = 67pts

Top goalie: Dean Skinns 0.919

Playoffs: beat Invicta Dynamos 13-1 (6-0, 7-1).  beat London Raiders 10-4 (7-4, 3-0).  beat Peterborough Phantoms 3-2 (1-1, 2-1)


SHEFFIELD STEELDOGS

League record: 31-4-1 = 63pts.  First in NIHL North 1 (Moralee)

Top scorer: Milan Kolena 36+33 = 69pts

Top goalie: Dmitri Zimozdra 0.945

Playoffs: beat Billingham Stars 13-6 (4-3, 9-3). beat Solihull Barons 9-5 (4-3, 5-2).  lost to Telford Tigers 3-8 (0-6, 3-2)
