NIHL: Coventry Blaze Announce New Head Coach

June 6, 2017

The Coventry NIHL Blaze are delighted to announce the appointment of a new Head Coach for the 2017/18 season.

Sean Alderson joins the NIHL Blaze bringing a wealth of knowledge and experience with him and having just won the U20 South Division and U20 English National Championships he’s a coach who knows what it takes to win.

Sean joined the Coventry Blaze Academy in May 2015 from Nottingham and took over as Academy Head Coach one month later and in the two years that have passed since he has not only progressed the academy but made huge improvements.

During his reign as Academy Head Coach the number of players within the academy has increased by almost 30% and the number of coaches has almost doubled.

He has also introduced several new initiatives within the academy that have helped to bring the academy closer together.

On a coaching front, this past season he led the U20 to not only the U20 South Division title but also the U20 English Championship title before narrowly losing out to Fife in the U20 UK National Championship Final.

In addition, he also led the U18 to a second consecutive second place finish in U18 North Division 1.

In his last two seasons at Nottingham prior to joining the academy he also led Nottingham’s U18 to both a U18 North Division 1 title (2013/14) and a second-place finish (2014/15), again showing he knows what it takes to win.

On accepting the position of NIHL Blaze Head Coach Sean said…

“I am delighted to have been given this opportunity and I’m look forward to the challenges it will bring, especially following the restructure of the NIHL.”
“One major thing I will be looking to improve is the link between the NIHL and the Academy as I feel this is vitally important for both the future of the NIHL team and the development of our players coming through the Academy.”

Trials for the 2017/18 season will take place as follows and the cost to trial will be £25 per player, which covers both sessions.

Tuesday 27th June (20:45-22:00) Tuesday 4th July (21:00-22:00)

Anyone who is interested in attending the trials are asked to contact Sean directly by emailing sihc_hockey@yahoo.co.uk to book their place.
