NEWS: This Girl Can event now open to U18 players

October 4, 2017

There has been quite a bit of dialogue and discussion concerning the future of the female junior game and JLMC have decided to try and cater for all junior female players at the upcoming This Girl Can event at Ice Sheffield on Thursday 26th October 2017.

thisgirlcanFIWe know that this date does not suit everyone due to the timing of some school holidays but it’s the best we can do with ice time and staff time at the minute so please do what you can to take part if you are able to.

What is particularly exciting about this development is that we are looking at re-freshing the England Girls programme too and we know that there has been quite a bit of chatter about England and GB so we have decided to look at everything with a fresh outlook on how the girls/women’s development model should look.

This may lead to a new U17 England Women’s Team although there would need to be some consideration given to GBU18W players in line with the current England Selection policy. The point here being that we open-up opportunities for continued development to players who are not yet ready to take a spot on the GB roster and who want to become better players.

With all of that in mind we are today extending this event to include U18 girls/women which will mean a slight adjustment to the previously advertised Age Groups. Can we ask everyone to spread the word across your networks that we need to get more girls involved in this initiative otherwise this programme is going to struggle to get established.
