NEWS: NIHL disciplinary update

January 5, 2018

The NIHL disciplinary panel have given their decisions following incidents in games on 30 December.

Hull Pirates player-coach Jason Hewitt picked up a 5+GM high sticking penalty in the game against Sheffield Steeldogs.  This takes the player beyond 15 penalty points for the season so under the ‘totting up’ rules he is suspended for three games.

The NIHL North 2 game between Coventry Blaze and Telford Tigers saw an incident occur at 58.55.

Coventry’s Robert Perks was assessed a game misconduct penalty for third man in and a Match penalty for roughing.  The player is suspended for one game for the Match penalty with five penalty points added to his record.  The points from this incident take him beyond the 10 and 15 point threshold.  Under points accumulation Perks is suspended for two games for reaching 10 points plus three games for reaching 15 points.  This means a total suspension of six games.

Telford’s Scott Venus was penalised with Match penalty for spearing and a Match penalty for roughing.  Venus is suspended for two games for spearing, one game for roughing and – as each Match penalty also brings five penalty points – he receives a further two games under points accumulation.  This means a total suspension of five games.

Finally the investigation continues into the NIHL South 2 incident between Invicta Mustangs and Slough Jets on December 16th.  Four players remain provisionally suspended pending the final decision which is expected in the coming week.
