Today’s announcement by the Prime Minister has disappointed all of our facility operators and rink users, it was declared the reopening of ice rinks has been postponed from August 1 to August 15 at the earliest.
As an industry we have been in contact with the Department of Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) who have confirmed this to be the case.
DCMS have already reviewed and approved the Return to Rinks document published in conjunction with partners from across the ice sport sector. This outlines how rinks can safely operate with social distancing in place in line with industry guidance and making ice venues COVID secure.
While we appreciate the need for safety to be the number one priority, the EIHA are extremely disappointed at the late notice of this decision and appreciate the impact that it has on rinks, teams and individuals that were looking forward to everyone getting back on the ice in the coming days.
Whilst we remain in Phase 1 of our Return to Play plan as a consequence of today’s decision, we are comfortable to extend the numbers of participants for group training outdoors in line with other sports to allow off-ice training activities to take place in groups of up to 30 in line with outdoor training and coaching guidance.
