NEWS: Consultation on future structure of NIHL

January 23, 2019

Over the past number of weeks the National League Management Group (NLMG) have been engaged in a consultation with clubs around the future structure of the NIHL.  The process began initially with NIHL 1 sides in both North and South but recently all member clubs were contacted by NLMG with an update and plans for next steps.

Discussions continue on the matter and once there are firm proposals they will be announced by the NIHL via the normal channels.

Would love to see a British league set up again

There is clearly a need to find away to have a league set up that avoids former EPL teams having to play teams such as the largely amateurs unpaid players of Nottingham Lions, every credit to Nottingham but they haven’t won a match this year and don’t look likely to.

This situation affects the top teams as well because some regular fans stay away from games against the bottom teams.

Many of us prefer to watch hockey with teams made up largely of British players with a small number of affordable imports.

Theee are new rinks in places such as Leeds and Cambridge so hopefully this will lead to more teams being available

I would favour a British league including some Scottish teams but again appreciate the cost of travel etc doesn’t suit all.

The Elite league does little to help in my mind but you can not blame players for wanting to complete at the highest level

It’s vital to encourage more players and teams but how you find an ideal solution to this situation is going to be a major challenge

    Good Luck!
