JLMC: Billingham Junior Stars search for club head coach
Billingham Junior Ice Hockey Club is seeking to appoint a club Head Coach.
Despite the effects of Covid-19 it is an exciting time for our club, with ambitious plans to grow participation numbers and develop talent in the sport and promote a player pathway from the ‘Learn to Play Ice Hockey’ programme through to senior ice hockey.
As a club, we have a proven track record of developing players of all abilities across age all groups and each year have players selected to Conference, England National Teams and Great Britain junior programmes and our teams have seen recent success at the National Finals.
Reporting to (and joining) the BJIHC Management Team, the head coach will provide leadership for the junior development programme. The appointed person will have outstanding technical, tactical and strategic knowledge of ice hockey. Responsibilities include the planning, development and implementation of all activities related to the programme including, but not limited to, the recruitment, supervision, mentoring, and coaching of athletes and staff.
In addition, planning, scheduling, and instruction for individual and team development, training sessions and games. This role also requires the effective management of resources including ice time and game day ice.
The head coach is required to develop and maintain positive relations with the Billingham Stars senior team and the Junior Club sponsors and partners.
Being the life blood of the club, developing the ‘Learn to Play’ programme will be a major part of this role.
The head coach will demonstrate exemplary ethical conduct and conformance to rules and regulations.
The duties of the position are to be performed in compliance with all EIHA and IHUK, League and division rules and regulations. The ideal candidate has a demonstrated track record of success within an ice hockey environment. They should also have strong organisational skills and an ability to work independently.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide programme leadership in the development of all on/off ice activities including supporting team staff with game day coordination, practice planning, strategic game planning and execution, supervision of club staff, assisting coaching staff in the scheduling of games/practices. Effectively recruit new coaching staff.
- Serve as a positive role model for our athletes and team staff at all times. Maintain effective communication with athletes, parents and staff and utilise effective motivational techniques. Attend professional development opportunities when available.
- Work with the club’s Management Team to coordinate all club related activities.
PERSONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum Qualifications: Current EIHA level 2/3.
- A minimum of 3-5 years of coaching experience as a team lead coach.
- Impeccable integrity and demonstrated capacity to teach, coach, and communicate with athletes, families and colleagues.
