EPIHL: Cup Final first leg takes place tonight

March 11, 2017

It’s second versus third in the 2017 EPIHL Cup Final as MK Lightning and Peterborough Phantoms meet over two legs, starting tonight at Peterborough.

So far this season, Lightning have a 34-13 (71pts) win-loss record in EPIHL competition while the Phantoms are 28-19 (58pts).

In their Cup semi finals, Milton Keynes saw off Hull Pirates with scores of 4-1 and 8-2.  Peterborough split their semi final series with Telford Tigers, winning the first game 4-2 before losing Game 2 at Telford by 7-2.  The Phantoms held their nerve in penalty shots to take their place in the final.

On this season’s head to head, the sides have met eight times with Milton Keynes holding the edge with five wins.  Unusually Peterborough’s three wins have all come at MK Arena.

In preseason, Phantoms won 4-1 at MK before losing the return 5-3.  The EPIHL Cup round robin stage saw the Lightning win both games – 4-1 at home and 5-2 away.

Finally in regular season play, Peterborough have won 3-2 at Milton Keynes on two occasions, with the Lightning winning at Bretton by 5-0 and 4-1.

The last time the sides met was at Peterborough on February 12, here are the highlights from PhanTV.

Tonight’s first leg will be at a packed Planet Ice in Bretton with face off at 5.30pm.  A live stream of the first leg is available from Ice Hockey Live – the stream costs £8.00.

The second leg takes place at MK Arena next Saturday, March 18, at 7pm.
