ENTP: Wednesday update from Girls Development Camp

June 1, 2017

Wednesday – we woke to a beautiful sunny day and it went down from there….no only joking!

After breakfast, bus and warm up we were ready to go on the ice at 10am.

Following the same format as yesterday with Lari working on skating, Nicole and George working with the goalies and Tim and Kirsten working with the players.

We started to work on the basic break outs and offensive positioning with special attention payed to passing accuracy.

The group said goodbye to Lari after some team pictures on the ice and then cooled down and changed ready for lunch.

Lunch over it was back to the sports hall to complete the off ice testing for this week.

As I said yesterday these results are added to the previous results and the girls that are selected for the team will be tested again in Finland. These results should show an improvement every month for every individual player. The process is simple – start to slip backwards and you get a warning; fail again and you will end up cut.

You have to be very fit and strong to play hockey at the highest levels so the earlier these girls start the better.

Back on the ice early as the ice was ready early. Afternoon sessions, shooting including slap shots from the blue line and building the break out into offence. Finished the session with a new drill from Nicole 1A and 1B circles and then 2A and 2B circles which was greatly appreciated by all!

As we were early onto the ice we finished a little early so after cool down and a shower got on the coach and back to the hotel for a longer rest before dinner.

Dinner – roast pork dinner with all the trimmings, lasagne, vegetables and salad. Chocolate cake, lemon meringue pie and fresh fruit.

Evening session working on the girls off ice and then a talk about becoming a GB player what is expected and travelling and playing in world championships by Nicole and George.
