England National Team Programme (ENTP) general manager Chris Benson has given an update following the first camp of the new season.
Five age group camps plus two ‘Power of’ events took place in Sheffield and Cardiff over August bank holiday and the new intake of ENTP players will be building towards the first in-season camp in October.
Benson said: “August has been a busy month for the England programme, it was a pleasure to see this year’s players at both camp venues. We have our coaches and managers in place for the new season and have a promising group of players to select from.
“We are busy planning the next camps at Ice Sheffield taking place on October 31 & November 1.
“We are hoping the dedication and determination of the players continues, once again we send a big thank you to all parents who continue to support their players through our system.”
Benson and ENTP head coach Ben Pitchley covered both venues in the first camp, speaking to parents as well as all players selected. It made for a hectic weekend but worth it as Benson feels it’s important for the management to ‘see and be seen’ by those involved.
“With over 220 players in attendance, we have the difficult task of selecting players to represent England at our age groups,” continued Benson.
“What happens on the ice is testament to the skill and commitment of the coaches. Behind the scenes we have a group of very experienced managers who tirelessly pull this all together to give the best possible experience for the young athletes.”
Benson confirmed that as the programme continues to grow and move to the next level, the management support also needs to grow. The ENTP are delighted to confirm the appointment of Claire Rowbotham as Assistant General Manager.
“Claire will assist with the day to day running of the programme, making sure we look after the detail of running the camps and support the nurturing of talent. Claire has been part of the ENTP as a manager over the past two years and has experience at various levels of hockey club management in her native Sheffield.
“Claire is a great addition to the management team, and while she will also continue to work amongst the Girls teams, we are delighted to have her on board in this new role.”
