ENGLISH ICE HOCKEY ASSOCIATION
BOARD ANNOUNCEMENT REGISTRATION RATES 2015/16
The Association held it’s Annual General Meeting in Nottingham last weekend and the Board presented to Members of the Association the Company Operating Reports for the period to 31st March 2015. The Chairman of the Association, Mr. Ken Taggart, and his fellow Board Members all presented reports and answered many questions raised by members of the Association. The Board fully appreciates the need for the Association to implement change and development that is urgently needed and expected by Members in order for the sport of ice hockey to develop.
Mr. Taggart explained that the landscape for ice hockey was changing with Ice Hockey UK and UK Sport seeking dramatic improvements in both governance and sport development to meet the changing nature of participation and competition expected by all stakeholders across sport. The Company enjoys a very enviable financial position and under the stewardship of Mr. Taggart, the Board has delivered a financially strong company which is capable of sustaining development of the sport in line with the recently published Sport Development Plan introduced earlier this year.
The Board wishes to acknowledge the challenges raised by members of the Association with regard to implementation of new development initiatives that support the furtherance of the sport. The Board has listened to the membership and while the direction of travel is aligned to the Development Plan, the extent and pace of change needs to be improved and to this end the Board has undertaken to make further announcements over the coming weeks which will detail new developments for the season 2015/16 and beyond.
In the meantime, the Board wishes to provide assurance to the Association’s members that it has and will continue to engage with the membership and will give careful consideration to the matters raised by members that affect the sport and its sustainability going forward. One such issue that has received Board consideration is the proposal to increase Registration Rates as proposed by the Finance Director. On reflection the Board has unanimously agreed to withdraw the proposal as presented and to hold the rates for Registration for the 2015/16 season at the 2014/15 published rates.
The Board considers that it would be in the best interest of the sport to hold the Registration rates for the current season which was one of the main items of contention highlighted at the Annual General Meeting. Notwithstanding, the Board wish to commend the work produced by the Finance Director in producing robust financial statements that were roundly appreciated by the members at the AGM in providing a new level of transparency that members found refreshing.
Mr. Taggart has announced today that Registration Rates for all players for the 2015/16 season will be held at the 2014/15 rates and that these rates will be reviewed for 2016/17.
