England Women and U16 Girls’ Program
The current female England programme started in 2005 prior to that recent years had seen the a Senior and U16’s Girls play at most two games against each other in anyone season, interest in these games was not what it should have been, late in 2005 a change the programme was introduced.
We would still trial and play the North South games but a definite schedule would be produced, with 38 girls from the U16’s games being selected to go to a School of Excellence to be held at Hull in May, while the girls where put through their paces in Hull a squad of around 25 Seniors where selected to train and continue the trial process, 19 players from the Seniors and 19 players from the U16’s School of Excellence where then chosen to be the England Women & England 16’s Girls, the aim to take the teams to Prague in the summer, this we did in 2006 and 2007.
2008 brought about a challenge due to rule changes within the EIHA the 16’s where no longer allowed to compete against senior players, so where to go next, we where left with few options, the choice in the end was easy Canada and the Hockoberfeast Tournament beckoned and some 74 people set off to Canada consisting of players, team staff, parents and family. The story continues with this years programme in place with the end goal to return to Canada in October to take part in another Hocktoberfest www.hocktoberfest.com
