The EIHA National Child Protection Officer and Safeguarding Lead, Gary Stokes, has stepped down with immediate effect. In the interim he is succeeded by Mark Anderson while a formal exercise to appoint a new CPO takes place.
Charles Dacres, Director responsible for Child Protection on the EIHA Board, said: “I am saddened that Gary has stood down from his role with us. He was instrumental in ensuring that our safeguarding approach was robust, and he has provided support to many people up and down the country.
“He made my role much easier, he provided a real voice of reason and he will be sadly missed as he brought so much to the role.
“While he brought a refreshing approach to safeguarding work he was supremely professional. We wish Gary every good wish for the future and thank him for his contribution to the Association and to our sport.”
The EIHA have appointed Mark Anderson as an interim Safeguarding Lead while a permanent replacement is sought.
Charles Dacres said: “Mark comes with a wealth of experience of working with young people and organisations and is fully aware of the impact of safeguarding issues and its importance in protecting young people and supporting clubs.
“He will provide advice, guidance and support to our members and will be providing safeguarding training over the next couple of months. Conference Chairs have been asked to provide dates for events in their local areas.”
