GB Women 6-0 Slovenia Women

Great Britain Women picked up their second win at the World Championship (Division 2A) in Bled with a 6-0 victory over hosts Slovenia.

Netminder Nicole Jackson secured a 26-shot shutout as GB looked solid all over the ice.

The result means GB have six points from their first three matches.

GB went ahead after only 30 seconds. With Louise Adams in the box for interference, Leanne Ganney skated in to fire past Pia Dukaric.

Sophie Herbert tipped in Chrissy Newman’s shot on the powerplay (17:38) and Kim Lane made it 3-0 only 71 seconds later after a scramble around the net (18:49).

GB scored on a five-on-three powerplay as Adams blasted the puck past Dukaric from the blueline at 33:40, while Katie Henry netted after linking up with Ganney (37:39) for a 5-0 second-period lead.

CJ Ashton scored GB’s sixth at 45:23 to crown a memorable night for Britain.

GB coach, Michelle Smith, said: “We needed a response from Sunday and I think we got it.

“We asked for a fast start and that is exactly what we got.

“Credit to the girls for bouncing back from Sunday’s defeat in a really professional manner.

“This is a very open tournament and anything can happen and we just have to stay focused night in, night out.”

There’s no action tomorrow but GB return to action on Thursday as they face Poland (12noon UK time).
