GB Women 2-1 Poland Women
Great Britain Women beat Poland Women 2-1 in their fourth game at the World Championship (Division 2A) in Bled.
The victory means GB still have a chance of the gold medal and promotion to Division 1B.
A two-goal victory over Poland today would’ve put the matter in GB’s hands.
To win gold now GB need to beat DPR Korea tomorrow and hope hosts Slovenia defeat Korea.
Player of the match netminder Nicole Jackson turned away 28 of the 29 shots she faced.
Poland took the lead after 94 seconds through Katarzyna Frackowiak as her shot trickled past Jackson.
Chrissy Newman hauled GB level with her fourth goal of the tournament as she got the final touch to a goalmouth scramble (29:22).
GB went ahead at 39:08 on a five-on-three powerplay as a shot from Louise Adams flew past Martyna Sass from the blueline.
Britain hit the pipes twice in the final period and outshot Poland 31-29 but they could not find that crucial third goal.
Coach James Ashton said: “This was another good performance against a very good Poland side.
“We gave it our all and it was another win for the girls.
“The final day is going to be exciting with so many medal posibilities.
“But we just have to our job and not worry about anything else.”
GB face DPR Korea at 3:30pm UK time tomorrow with Slovenia hosting Korea at 7pm.
